Halcrow’s river of experience runs deep, which is why it was recently awarded a major part in the Thames Tideway project constructing London’s deepest tunnel. The London-based international consultancy, founded in 1868, has helped deliver some of the world’s most ambitious engineering projects including High Speed 1, the £5.8 billion Channel tunnel rail link, the £470m Chongzun Expressway in China and London’s £15.9 billion Crossrail project. It is also helping the government of Louisiana to create defences against storms following Hurricane Katrina. Sales at the employee-owned firm reached £388.1m in 2007 under chief executive Peter Gammie.
