Lambrini is the best-selling product of Merseyside alcoholic drinks maker Halewood International, with 20m bottles of the pear-based beverage bought each year. It sells its products, including Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer, to 40 countries, and the firm is also UK distributor of Chinese beer Tsingtao and Lamb’s Navy Rum. The company was founded by John Halewood in 1978 and, following his death last October, is now chaired by his wife, Judy. Focusing on more efficient production and higher- margin products has helped profits to grow 71% a year, from £3.5m in 2008 to £17.6m in 2011.
