Plumber Harvey Bowden, 67, started selling water softeners in the 1970s but it wasn’t until he designed his own compact model that the business took off. Bowden has since been joined by son Casey, 35, as chairman, and managing director Martin Hurworth, 43, who joined in 2014 to oversee a multimillion-pound investment programme that helped profits at the Surrey-based firm more than triple to £5.8m in 2015.
