The NHS and private consultants draw on this firm to provide care and treatment for patients in their own homes. Some 300 nurses from the 24 regional centres of Healthcare at Home made 75,000 visits to patients last year, to administer treatments such as chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Founded by Charles Walsh in 1992 and based on an American model for home nursing services, the company has benefited from the increasing complexity of drugs – more require injection or infusion – and from a trend for the NHS to outsource treatment. Sales have grown 60% a year from £83.9m in 2003 to an annualised £346.7m in 2006.
