This firm was founded in 1992 by chairman Charles Walsh when he realised that home-nursing services, widespread in America, were not available in Britain. Nurses from the company’s 24 regional centres made 75,000 visits to patients, last year, to administer treatments such as chemotherapy and blood transfusions. The Burton-upon-Trent firm also looks after 40,000 patients who receive support for chronic conditions. It runs its own pharmacy service and provides nurses for clinical trials. Annualised sales reached £346.7m in 2006. Apax partners sold its minority stake to Hutton Collins in July.
