Since winning a Queen’s Award for export in 2003, gift maker History & Heraldry has not rested on its laurels. Last year, the company began selling its products in eastern Europe and Russia, and won Clinton Cards as a customer in Britain. Malcolm Ogg and Dianne Clothier started the business in 1994 in their kitchen, making coat-of-arms keyrings for common surnames. The firm’s gifts are now sold in high-street shops and at places like York Minster. Profits have grown 69% a year from £1.1m in 2000 to £5.3m in 2003.
