Peace & Quiet Ltd is the holding company for Hobbs, the upmarket women’s clothes designer and retailer, which has succeeded in an era of high street meltdown. It was founded by husband and wife team Yoram and Marilyn Anselm in 1981. The couple’s daughters, Aimie and Kate, are now involved in the day-to-day running of the firm. The first Hobbs store was opened in South Molton Street, London, but the company has since expanded throughout the country and runs a franchise operation in Sweden. Company profits have grown by 53% pa, from £1.1m in 1996 to £4m in 1999. Sales have risen 19% pa in the same period to reach £28.6m in 1999. The company declined to explain the reasons for this profit growth.
