Selling everything from plastic lightsabers to imported beers, Home Bargains says it is Merseyside’s biggest employer, with more than 18,000 staff. It was founded more than 40 years ago in Liverpool by managing director Tom Morris, 64, who owns the business with his brother Joe, 59, who is operations director. Profits rose 20% to £209m on turnover of £1.9bn in 2017.
