Honest Burgers appears in our table for the fifth consecutive year, having capitalised on Britain’s hunger for high-quality burgers, growing sales to £30.7m in the year to January, up from £22.3m in the previous year. Tom Barton, 33, and Philip Eeles, 36, teamed up with the experienced restaurateur Dorian Waite, 52, in 2011 to turn their food truck into an upmarket burger chain. Initially opening in Brixton, south London, it has expanded every year and now has 36 restaurants, with 28 in the capital and the rest dotted around the country from Cardiff to Brighton. The simple menu of just nine burgers — six beef, one chicken and two veggie — is supplied by its own butchery, which it set up in 2017.
