Chris and Anne Fraser set up London-based HotelConnect in 1993 to exploit changing tastes in the travel market. Realising that non-package-tour travellers wanted a range of hotel options, it set about identifying untapped European city accommodation. Expansion into beach resorts and the growth of European short breaks encouraged by low-cost flights have increased sales by more than 77% a year from £2.7m in 1999 to £15.2m in 2002, and they have continued to grow this year.
