Founded by serial entrepreneur Julian Hearn, and former NHS dietician James Collier, both 46, Huel, or “Human Fuel”, produces food products that can be used as a meal. The pair used £220,000 from the sale of Hearn’s previous business, the voucher site promotionalcodes.org.uk, and secured a £20m investment from venture capital firm Highland Europe in September. The Buckinghamshire company says it has sold more than 30m meals across 80 countries, including the UK, US and Europe, and has recently expanded into China. Sales reached £14m this year, and are forecast to triple to £42m in the year to January 2019. Hearn says he hopes to grow Huel into a £1bn business, with an eye to taking it public in the next four years.
