This upmarket bootmaker, founded more than 150 years ago, was bought out of administration in 2006. Led by chairman Oliver Haarman, the new management streamlined operations, moving production from its Dumfries site and outsourcing manufacturing to the Far East. Investing in colourful designs and obtaining celebrity endorsements helped to push up international sales by 115% a year, from an annualised £7.1m in 2008 to £32.6m in 2010. Searchlight Capital Partners bought a majority stake for an undisclosed sum in December to fund further expansion
