Established in 1933, this Scottish distiller produces 15m bottles of spirits a year and is the world’s tenth largest Scotch whisky company. Its brands include Glengoyne whisky, Edinburgh Gin and Langs Rum, and it also supplies private-label spirits to some of Europe’s largest supermarket groups. The family-owned firm sells to 60 countries and has seen rising demand for premium spirits from the growing middle classes in China and India. Exports rose 10% in 2019 to £59.4m, representing more than half of total sales. The business is led by managing director Leonard Russell, 59, the third generation of the founding family.
