Companies that master the art of cleaning can grow rapidly. Integrated Cleaning Management (ICM), founded in 1996 by Paul Rafferty and Coral Brodie, provides a full daily service to clients such as Woolworth, Kingfisher and Lloyds TSB. The Hampshire company has almost 1,500 part-time cleaners on its books, all trained, equipped and mindful of safety regulations. With a tight labour market in southeast England and ever more demanding customers, ICM tries to be flexible to meet their needs. To provide cleaning services to Guildford’s Odeon cinema, for example, the company buses in cleaners from a 15-mile radius at 4am. Such service has driven up sales 107% a year from £536,000 in 1997 to £4.8m in 2000, when the company employed 1,023 people.
