While working for Barclays in the 1970s, Paul Rafferty took part-time cleaning jobs to save money to travel. ‘I have ended up working in cleaning ever since and never did get to travel the world,’ he says. Rafferty founded Hampshire-based Integrated Cleaning Management with Coral Brodie in 1996. Contracts for clients, which include a number of high-street stores and cinemas, have helped sales grow by 74% a year from £1.2m in 1998 to £6.5m in 2001, when the company employed 1,433 people.
