Chairman Lord Edmiston was made redundant when sports-car maker Jensen collapsed in 1976. With his £6,000 payout he set up International Motors, which now owns franchises for Subaru, Isuzu and Daihatsu in the UK. Next year the West Midlands company will start importing vehicles from China’s Great Wall Motor Company. Edmiston’s son Andrew heads the firm.
