Ineos is a global manufacturer of speciality and bulk chemicals and is now Britain’s second-largest chemicals company, with 60 manufacturing facilities in 16 countries. It claims to be the world’s largest producer of acetone, phenol and car air-conditioning fluids. Ineos’s 2003 sales amounted to £1,782m. The group has two sister companies, Ineos Chlor (No 93 in this league table), which has sales of £373m, and Ineos Vinyls Group, which owns a majority stake in EVC, an Amsterdam-quoted company with sales of £727m. Together, sales total £2,882m. Ineos was established in 1998 in a management buyout led by Jim Ratcliffe.
