As former chief executive of Lord Lloyd-Webber’s Really Useful Group, Patrick McKenna is used to closing large deals. Ingenious Media, the entertainment investment and advisory company that McKenna founded in 1998, co-brokered Robbie Williams’s ground-breaking record deal with EMI, reputedly worth £80m. It has also invested in Simon Fuller’s company, 19, which produces Pop Idol, and has given advice on a £23m deal for Hat Trick, producer of Have I Got News For You. Ingenious also co-produced and funded the hit films Wimbledon and Bride and Prejudice. Its sales have grown 174% a year from an annualised £1.7m in 2000 to £34m in 2003, when it made a substantial profit.
