When Dennis Haines, former head of operations for Fujitsu-ICL in Hong Kong, founded this company in 1999 to take advantage of growth in the digital-camera market, it sold only 20 products. Inkjet Direct now sells more than 2,000 printer consumables, including ink and printer cartridges, together with photo paper, to trade buyers and end users. It claims that bulk-buying of consumables for printers made by the likes of HP, Canon and Xerox has enabled it to offer customers lower prices, increasing sales by 102% a year, from an annualised £957,000 in 2001 to £7.9m in 2004.
