Giving up the day job was the right move for Richard Reed, Adam Balon and Jonathan Wright, founders of Innocent Drinks. Within three years, the fresh-fruit smoothie and yoghurt drink maker has gone from quirky upstart to household name. It still gives away surplus produce to the homeless, and jokes that its drinks are an alternative to the gym. Seasonal flavours supplement the 17 recipes on sale at leading supermarkets, Boots, Starbucks and smaller independents nationwide. Sales have risen 205% a year from an annualised £374,000 in 2000 to £10.6m in 2003.
