After being made redundant from a freight company in 1991, Michael Durrant set up International AirMoves to sell services to small and medium-sized businesses. The company manages all the paperwork, such as customs documents, and has access to an international network of freight forwarders to ensure efficient movement of cargo from origin to destination. The Middlesex company, recently renamed International Movements Group, has branched out into offering international aid agencies secure transit for humanitarian services. In recent years it has transported food, medicines and tents to Angola, Mozambique and Uganda. It hopes soon to be working in Afghanistan. Despite stiff competition from 600 freight companies in the Heathrow area, it has increased sales 118% from £410,000 in 1997 to £4.3m in 2000, when it had 12 staff.
