Launched in 2012 by chief executive Mark Stewart, 55, as a mobile app for international calls and messages, this firm developed into an international telecoms company in 2015, and sells airtime and SMS to more than 1,100 phone providers in 130 countries, including China and Russia. The firm operates through its brand Bank of Telecom, a platform that automates its telecoms services and allows customers to receive payments online within two hours. Last year it set up a subsidiary in Malta, which will allow customers to make payments using instant blockchain technology. Sales reached £60.2m this year, which include the gross cost of voice calls and SMS sold via its platform.
