IPT runs several websites that allow a user to complete a questionnaire in return for the chance to win a prize or access information. IPT then stores the data from the questionnaire and sells it to customers such as Lloyds TSB, Citroen and Easyjet, which use it for marketing. Its most popular sites are Dailydiettracker.co.uk, which offers free diet and exercise guidance, and Payfinder.com, which allows you to compare your salary with others doing similar jobs. Founded by Lionel Thain in 1999, IPT says it has built up a database of 5.4m e-mail addresses and 1.8m postal addresses, along with a wealth of information about each individual. Sales have grown 90% a year from £893,000 in 2000 to £6.1m in 2003.
