IPT’s websites, which include myoffers.co.uk, quizplayer.co.uk and consumerhouse.co.uk, allow a user to complete a questionnaire in return for the chance to win a prize. IPT then stores the data from the questionnaire and sells it to customers such as Dell Computers, Nationwide and Scottish Power, which use it for marketing. Founded by Lionel Thain in 1999, IPT has built up a database of 2.4m e-mail addresses and 1.1m postal addresses, along with a wealth of information about each individual. Its sales have grown 143% a year from £893,000 in 2000 to £5.3m in 2002.
