Tech Track 100

Tesco recently awarded Irisys a £3m contract to analyse waiting times at its checkouts and to calculate how many tills should be open. Founded by former colleagues at GEC and led by chief executive David Clayson, Northamptonshire-based Irisys develops infrared imaging devices that also screened travellers for fever during the Sars outbreak and monitor machines for wear. In 2005 the firm raised £4.2m from a consortium led by Foresight Venture Partners. Sales have grown 67% a year from £2.4m in 2003 to £6.6m in 2005.
