Irisys was founded in 1996 to commercialise thermal imaging technology used by the defence industry. The Northamptonshire company makes equipment whose applications include counting people at airports, analysing queuing behaviour in supermarkets, and testing electrical equipment for faults. With an office in Atlanta, the US is Irisys’s largest overseas market but it sells to more than 50 countries. International sales under co-founder and managing director David Clayson grew 83% a year from £6.7m in 2009 to £22.5m in 2011.
