Now based in London, this casual clothes brand opened its first store in Salcombe, the swish Devon coastal village, in 1999. Jack Wills’s preppy range is sold in affluent towns around Britain, and the company is also eyeing the American and Asian markets. For example, the firm promoted itself in America by handing out 50,000 T-shirts to holiday-makers. In 2008 the business launched Aubin & Wills, targeting older customers. Inflexion Private Equity bought a minority stake in 2007 for an undisclosed sum, and Peter Williams, Jack Wills’s founder, retains a controlling stake. Profits have grown 93% a year from £859,000 in 2006 to £6.2m in 2009.
