This firm started life as a professional consultancy in 1997. But David Jacobs and Phil Rimell, who resigned from Reuters to start the business, soon realised there was more money to be made by developing a product. They now create software that cuts the amount of engineering time needed to launch telecommunications or multi-media services.
JacobsRimmell’s software has proved popular with internet service providers and broadband providers, such as Cable & Wireless and NTL, helping to increase sales by 225% a year, from £691,000 in 1998 to £7.3m in 2000. It employs 127 staff.
