More than 140 years have passed since James Hall opened a bacon-cutting business and shop in Southport, Lancashire, in 1863. He soon began supplying other retailers in the neighbourhood, laying the foundations of a wholesale distribution business that supplies fresh, frozen and chilled goods to 450 Spar convenience stores in northern England. Now run by fourth-generation family members, brothers Ian and Andrew Hall, the company has also supplied goods to personnel in the British armed services for more than a decade. Sales rose to £314.3m in 2006.
