Founded as a bacon-cutting business by James Hall in 1863, today the Preston-based company offers a range of services including food wholesaling and distribution for about 450 Spar convenience stores in northern England. The company stocks more than 8,000 items in its distribution centre, which is big enough to house nearly three Wembleys. It is run by fourth-generation family members, brothers Ian and Andrew Hall. 2008 sales reached £341.8m.
