Preston-based James Hall began life in 1863 as a bacon-cutting business in Southport. More recently the company expanded its food wholesaling business, which now supplies about 450 Spar stores in northern England. The company stocks more than 8,000 items in its distribution centre, which is almost big enough to contain three Wembley stadiums. Under chairman Ian Hall sales reached £434.9m in 2010.
