Jamie’s Italian was founded by Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, in Oxford in 2008. It bills itself as an affordable, family-friendly restaurant chain and makes its own pasta every morning and sources ingredients both locally and from Italy. It has more than 60 locations worldwide, with 28 based overseas. It says it is planning to open another 22 abroad, whereas growth at home will be slower following its closure in January of six UK restaurants citing tough trading conditions.
