JCB sold its one millionth machine in 2013 and ended the year by announcing a £150m investment to expand its Staffordshire operations, adding 2,500 jobs by 2018. Lord Bamford, 68, has led the business since 1975, creating the world’s third-largest construction equipment maker by volume. It employs 11,000 people worldwide and makes more than 300 different machines. Profits in 2012 hit a record £288.4m but weaker demand in India is expected to have knocked profits in 2013.
