JDR takes its name from British firm Jacques Cable Systems and Dutch rival De Regt Special Cable, which merged in 1998. It designs and manufactures subsea cables for energy projects including German wind farms and oil and gas fields in West Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australia. International sales reached £115.8m in 2012. Led by chairman Pat Herbert, 67, JDR is owned by Vision Capital, which backed a £90m buyout in 2007.
