In 1903, Septimus Jennings, whose hobby was repairing bicycles in his garden shed, had the vision to sell cars – then an untested trade. He bought premises in Morpeth and sold some of the first models to roll off Ford’s production line. Jennings continues to sell the marque through seven dealerships on Teesside. Its first Mazda dealership opened in 2003. Today the firm offers car rental, fleet sales and repair. It is headed by Alan Bentley, who owns most of it. Sales totalled £132.3m in 2003.
