Jennings was set up in 1903 as a bicycle-repair shop but switched to selling cars in 1917, becoming one of the north of England’s first Ford dealers. Today the company has a network of nine dealerships and has expanded its offering to include Mazda and Seat cars as well as commercial vehicles. It also has a specialist 4×4 centre. After a buyout of the Northumberland company in August 2005, for an undisclosed sum, sales director Nas Khan took the helm as managing director and pushed up sales to £146.7m in 2009.
