John Martin founded his car business in the 1960s in a lock-up garage in Edinburgh, and has grown it into one Scotland’s leading car dealers. The JM Group owns more than 20 car showrooms and repair centres in Scotland, selling range of marques from Aston Martin to Volvo. Its trading names include Belmont, Murray Motor Company and Dunedin. Still wholly owned by chairman Martin and his family, the Edinburgh firm, which holds over 16 franchises and employs more than 700 people, posted sales of £215.7m in 2006.
