Last year’s Profit Track 100 top company, the internet recruiter with profit margins of over 80%, is keen to capitalise on its head start in the market. It launched six new sites in 2001, focusing on sales, engineering, banking, legal, medical and secretarial vacancies. The company was founded in 1993 by Robbie Cowling, who left school with no qualifications and who initially trained as a mechanic. It originally specialised in information technology vacancies. But in 2000 it launched an accountancy site and it now posts details of 11,600 jobs on its various sites every day, with recruitment agencies paying between £4 and £15 per job advert. Individual companies can now also post their vacancies. Essex-based Jobserve is launching its first recruitment show in London in July to give agencies and candidates the chance to meet. “Our site is where people go for the latest information,” says Cowling. “But face-to-face meetings will always be important in this business.” Profit have grown 71% a year, from £2.2m in 1997 to £10.9m in 2000, when sales reached £13.1m.
