Jobserve is one of only two dotcom companies in this year’s Tech Track 100. It is also exceptional in being highly profitable, with margins of 80%. The internet recruitment publisher was co-founded in 1994 by Robbie Cowling, who left school with no qualifications and trained as a mechanic. The firm began as a fax service but later evolved into an internet recruitment site, carrying details of IT job vacancies. The company now posts details of 8,500 IT, medical, accounting and engineering vacancies on its sites every day. Sales have grown 52% a year, from £5.6m in 1998 to £13m in 2000.
