Jobserve, the top company in this year’s Profit Track 100, makes its first appearance in the Fast Track 100 table, with annual sales growth of 111%, from £877,000 in 1996 to £8.3m in 1999. The company was founded in 1993 as a fax service but relaunched as an internet site in 1995. Claiming to have been the first online recruiter, it posts details of more than 12,000 vacancies daily on its website, with recruitment agencies paying between £4 and £15 each. It also e-mails contractors with details of vacancies. The company originally specialised in publishing IT vacancies, but an accountancy site is now running, and founder Robbie Cowling plans to launch two new sites each month for the first four months of 2001. Cowling, who left school with no qualifications, has bought out his co-founder, John Witney, and aims to expand globally.
