Founder and managing director Simon Brown set up Joe Browns in 1998 with the aim of creating a feel-good lifestyle brand for men. The Leeds company has since introduced womenswear and now sells casual clothing, accessories and activity gift vouchers through mail order and on the internet. It claims to have 350,000 customers, 70% of whom are women. In 2004, it launched the Fried Frog casual wear brand and it now produces catalogue pages for Grattan and Freemans in Britain and sells through Otto on the Continent. The company’s sales have grown 83% a year from £1.5m in 2002 to £9.2m in 2005.
