John Laing is a specialist investor and a manager, in Britain and abroad, of infrastructure assets such as the Second Severn Crossing in Wales. It doubled its investment in new projects to £146m in 2012, including a number of renewable energy projects – a new direction for the company. Henderson Equity Partners took the company private in 2006 in a £1.1bn deal, and pro-forma sales reached £815m in 2012 under chief executive Adrian Ewer, 59.
