More than 1m tons of waste is processed every year by this Derbyshire business, including incinerator ash, quarried aggregates and construction and demolition materials. The business, founded in 1999 by Steve Johnson, 55, guarantees zero waste to landfill, and secured £5m in funding from growth-capital firm BGF in 2016. The aggregates it produces are used to build roads, and it also extracts metals from incinerator ash, which it sells into Europe and Asia. International sales hit £3.8m last year.
