The Jump Group says it offers an alternative to traditional estate agents. The Leeds company calls itself a property retailer and is not bound by the estate agent’s code of conduct, enabling it to offer a different package. For example, its Jumpstart scheme advances buyers the deposit and arranges a 95% mortgage. Founded as Homestarter Group in 1995 by Jason Butler when he was just 22, Jump now boasts 22 branches across Yorkshire. In November 2002 it raised £1.5m from BP Marsh, a venture-capital firm, to fund further expansion. Sales have grown almost 89% a year from £2.7m in 1999 to £17.8m in 2002.
