Fast Track 100

When Duncan Bannatyne found no nursery space available in Darlington for his children, he took matters into his own hands. With the former Tory education minister Michael Fallon, he opened the first Just Learning nursery in 1995. Since then the company, now based in Kent, has opened 30 nurseries around the country. Just Learning has grown sales 107% a year from £679,000 in 1998 to £6m in 2001, when it employed 463 people and when Alchemy Partners, the venture capitalist, bought 84.5% of the company for £32m.
