Started in 1982 by the Yerolemous, a Greek Cypriot family, Katsouris makes Mediterranean foods such as moussaka and taramasalata for leading supermarkets including Tesco and Marks & Spencer. In November 2001 the Icelandic food group Bakkavor bought the company for a reported £100m. Profits have grown 30% a year from £6.2m in 1998 to £13.7m in 2001, when the London company had 1,375 staff.
