The Staffordshire business Keycom provides internet services to students in halls of residence. In the past few years, it has branched out into delivering broadband to the occupants of military barracks. The short contracts and fast tenant turnover of both types of site render them unsuitable for bigger providers such as Virgin and BT. Under chairman and founder Rod Matthews, a former chief executive of Scottish Telecom, Keycom’s sales grew 51% a year from £1.8m in 2007 to £6.1m in 2010.
