Keycom is a niche provider of internet, broadband and telephone services to student rooms in halls of residence. The company has developed its own software to handle all traffic and billing. Keycom says its services are in use at 150 halls of residence in 50 universities. The company is listed on Ofex and grew through the acquisition in 2002 of two competitors that had gone into receivership. Sales have risen 145% a year from an annualised £244,000 in 2001 to £1.5m in 2003, when the company made a substantial loss.
