Some 25m people a month visit the website of King.com to play online skill games and puzzles, such as Scrabble and Bejeweled, and television spin-offs, including Deal or no Deal. The website charges 25% commission on its pay-to-enter tournaments where players compete for money prizes, but most users —predominantly women aged over 25— play free games. This year the company will launch games for new platforms such as Facebook. King.com, co-founded by Riccardo Zacconi, chief executive, in 2003, has increased profits by 62% a year from £1.1m in 2005 to £4.7m in 2008.
