Laing O’Rourke was founded in 1978 by its chief executive, Ray O’Rourke, 71. Its flagship projects include London’s “cheesegrater” tower, one of the tallest in the City, and Heathrow Terminal 5. In 2017, following a strategic review, the Dartford company staged a turnaround, with losses of £18m turned into profits of £78m, and reported an increase in its UK order book. In March, its Australian division won a £540m contract to upgrade Sydney Central train station.
